Royal Quest Online: A Free MMORPG That Feels Like Ragnarok Online!

My First Impressions of Royal Quest Online - An Old-School MMORPG with a New Twist

Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel! Today, I’m diving into Royal Quest Online, a free-to-play MMORPG I stumbled upon on Steam. It's a game that I felt has the same vibe as Ragnarok Online in terms of look and gameplay, so if you’re into nostalgic MMORPGs, you might want to check it out!

Getting Started

After downloading the game (which, by the way, is completely free), I created my character. This is my first time playing, so I’m still getting the hang of things. The game starts with a series of tutorials that’s pretty straightforward. You can move your character around by pointing and clicking on the ground. Zoom in and zoom out using the mouse scroll wheel. The tutorial gives you the basics, and I’ll admit, I breezed through it pretty quickly.

The Story & Questing

I was immediately introduced to a character named "Nicholas" (which, let’s be real, is just Santa Claus in disguise). He was my first quest: head out and help the kingdom by fighting some monsters on the road. As I've stated, the game uses a “point-and-click” system for movement, which I’m not the biggest fan of, mostly because I’ve been using a mouse for years and it tends to hurt my wrist after a while. But hey, it’s a small downside in an otherwise interesting game.

After completing a few initial quests and fighting off some slimes (called dew drops), I learned how to loot items from the ground by either clicking on them or hitting the spacebar. It’s pretty satisfying when you pick up new gear and resources!

The Combat & Progression

Combat in Royal Quest Online feels a lot like Ragnarok—simple but fun. You’ll click to attack monsters, and each monster drop gives you useful items as well as XP help level up. I went from level 1 to 3 in no time, and once I hit level 3. You can enhance your stats like strength which will help you do more damage, at least for my character who was a warrior.

Something interesting about the game is that you can improve your gear through alchemy. You’ll need a Philosopher’s Stone (a rare item) to improve your weapons, which is essentially a bit of in-game "gambling." You can try your luck at upgrading your gear, but it might break depending on the quality of the stone.

Side Quests & Alchemy

In addition to the main quests, the game offers plenty of side tasks to keep you busy. I ran into a merchant named Luke who needed help retrieving honey for the kingdom’s soldiers. There’s also a lot of back-and-forth between NPCs, and you’ll often need to travel to different areas to complete tasks or gather materials.

The alchemy system is pretty cool, though I haven’t explored it fully yet. You can craft items and improve your weapons, but it seems like a bit of a grind. I’m still figuring out how all the mechanics work, but the idea of item improvements gives the game a nice layer of depth.

Fun With Friends & Community

Royal Quest feels very much like a classic MMORPG, and I can already tell it’s the kind of game where the more you play, the more rewarding it becomes. You get to interact with other players, form parties, and tackle big world events. It’s not quite as fast-paced as newer MMOs, but that’s what I like about it—it has that old-school vibe.

There's also a pet system and I was surprised to receive a free pet early on in the game. You can summon it and use it to help with your battles. Honestly, it’s a cool little addition that makes the game feel more personal.

My Thoughts So Far

While I still have a lot to learn about Royal Quest Online, I didn't feel bored playing it for an hour. It gives me major Ragnarok Online vibes, which is great for those who played that classic MMORPG back in the day. If you’re looking for something that has that nostalgic feel but with updated features, this game could be right up your alley.

I’ll definitely be playing more, and who knows? Maybe this will be my go-to game when I want something different from Skyrim. I’ll be back with more updates soon, but for now, I encourage you to give it a try if you're into old-school MMORPGs.
