That Awkward Moment When the x3 Event... Isn’t x3

Have you ever confidently complained about something... only to realize you were completely wrong? Because that was me during this livestream.

I started out at Snowy Crystals for what I believed was an x3 Celestial Butterfly event in Second Life. The idea was simple: hunt butterflies, earn Lindens, enjoy the bonus multiplier. Except... I was barely earning anything.

On stream, I kept saying, “This doesn’t feel like x3.” The payouts were tiny, and I was genuinely confused. Later, I realized the truth: the Celestial Butterfly stump wasn’t actually set to x3.

Yes. I had been confidently complaining for no reason. I felt very stupid. LOL.

Determined to redeem myself, I teleported to another location where a real x3 event was happening. And guess what? It was packed. Avatars everywhere. The lag was intense. It got so bad that OBS started having encoding problems during the stream. Nothing like technical struggles to keep things exciting, right?

While hunting, I started talking about something that really bugs me in games, minimum catch values that go below bait cost. For example, if bait costs 0.16 and you catch something worth 0.04, you’re actually losing money. That just shouldn’t happen in a well-balanced system.

One example that avoids this problem is Virtual Fishing. In that game, small worms cost 0.1, and the lowest possible catch value is also 0.1. That means you at least break even. No loss. That kind of balance makes a big difference, especially for casual players.

Later, I headed back to Celestial Butterfly HQ for yet another x3 event. The bonus was active this time (thankfully), but getting to the stump was an adventure. The walk from the landing point was long, and with all the avatars around, it was incredibly laggy.

Despite the confusion, lag, and my very public realization that I was wrong about the multiplier, it was still a fun stream. Sometimes the best moments aren’t the smooth ones, they’re the slightly chaotic, laugh-at-yourself ones.

And next time? I’m definitely double-checking the stump settings first. 😅
