Celestial Butterfly vs Virtual Fishing, Was It Worth Going Back?

Celestial Butterfly vs Virtual Fishing, Was It Worth Going Back?

It had been quite a while since I last played Celestial Butterfly in Second Life, so I figured it was time to give it another try. The funny thing? I’m only Level 2. Yep, still basically a beginner.

Instead of my usual virtual fishing session, I headed over to Will-O-Wisps Garden. Just a heads up, you need payment info on file to enter the land. Luckily, my avatar was already set up, so I got in without any problems.

What’s interesting is that the location offers both Virtual Fishing and Celestial Butterfly, and they actually use the exact same mechanics. The only difference is the theme. In virtual fishing, you catch fish using a fishing rod and worms. In celestial butterfly, you catch butterflies using a net and nectars. Same idea, different vibe.

But here’s where things get interesting, the value.

At normal rate (x1), Virtual Fishing is honestly better. For 10 Linden Dollars, you get 100 worms. With Celestial Butterfly, 10 Linden Dollars only gives you 58 nectars. On top of that, the waiting time is longer. Fishing takes 60 seconds per catch, while butterfly catching takes 75 seconds. When you do the math, fishing clearly gives you more for your money and your time.

Now... let’s talk about the panda.

There was this creepy-looking panda near the fishing and butterfly area, which were both placed close to the edge of the region. I’ll be honest — it was not cute. At all. Some pets in Second Life are adorable. The dragons I saw? Super cute. This panda? Nope. And to make it worse, it was using a lot of land impact. That’s a heavy panda in more ways than one.

Oh, and there were ban lines on the neighboring land, so you definitely didn’t want to wander too far.

Overall, it was fun revisiting Celestial Butterfly, but if we’re talking pure value at normal rate? Virtual Fishing still wins.
