Skyrim Legendary Edition: Is Alduin a Hero? Escaping Helgen, Meeting Gerdur & Looting Feandal's House!

Live Streaming Woes and Skyrim Beginnings

Today's streaming session started with a bit of technical difficulty; OBS was showing a red bandwidth indicator, suggesting streaming issues despite the bit rate being fine. But that didn't dampen the excitement as we dived into the legendary world of Skyrim - not the Special Edition, but the original legendary one.

Character Creation and Game Stability

As always, creating a character in Skyrim feels like coming home, even if this home is known for its occasional crashes. Skyrim's charm lies in its unpredictability, right? And speaking of unpredictable, the game decided to play nice today, or so it seemed.

The Classic Skyrim Intro

The game kicked off with the iconic cart ride into Helgen. Here I was, bound for execution, pondering on the irony of being saved by Alduin, the very dragon whose arrival sets the entire story in motion. It's a twisted tale where the antagonist inadvertently becomes a savior.

First Person or Third?

Skyrim forces you into a first-person view during its iconic opening sequence, which adds to the initial immersion and helplessness of your character. However, as soon as I gained control, I switched to third person. I've never been a fan of first-person in RPGs, and Skyrim's third-person view gives a better sense of the surroundings and, frankly, looks cooler during gameplay.

Escaping Helgen

Alduin's attack was as chaotic as ever, providing the perfect backdrop for an escape. Inside the keep, we not only had to dodge falling debris but also engage in combat with Imperial soldiers, while a few Stormcloaks joined the fray, though we got separated in the confusion. Following Ralof, because why not choose a familiar path in a game filled with choices? We navigated through the keep, encountering spiders and a bear, showcasing Skyrim's wildlife in all its sleeping glory.

Riverwood and Beyond

Post-escape, Riverwood greeted us with its quaint charm. Here, I met Gerdur, who provided some much-needed direction in this vast world. The local drama unfolded at the Riverwood Trader where I accepted the Golden Claw quest, a staple of Skyrim's early adventures. In a moment of honesty, I told Camilla the truth about Sven, potentially altering local relationships. And, in true Skyrim fashion, I engaged in some liberal looting at Faendal's house, taking everything that wasn't nailed down - all in the spirit of preparing for the adventures ahead.

Looking Ahead

As the session wrapped up, the journey in Skyrim is just beginning again. There's so much more to explore, from mastering spells like Sparks to potentially hiring companions. Upcoming adventures promise more quests to complete, new faces to meet, and the vast, breathtaking landscapes of Skyrim to explore.
