Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Players are Dipping Out

The concurrent player count for Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 has dropped significantly, with a 56% loss in users just 17 days after reaching its peak of 488,897 players on November 20. This downward trend has continued, with Steam Charts reporting a record low average player count of 90,000 and a peak of 156,956 in March, coinciding with the release of Season 2 on March 9.

However, instead of sparking a revival for both games, the seasonal update received criticism from significant figures in the gaming community such as JGOD and Aydan, who stepped away along with many others over the past 30 days. While this trend is worrying for fans of the game, some are optimistic that the declining player count will prompt changes for one of gaming's biggest franchises.

Community members have expressed disappointment over the missed opportunity to capitalize on a wide-open FPS landscape and hope that the low numbers serve as a wake-up call to the developers. Some even hope that the player count continues to drop, with one member stating, "I hope it goes to 0. It shows when the game is sh** and devs don't care about it, and only about store bundles."

It's worth noting that Steam Charts only account for PC players on Steam, but the data still tells a troubling story. Based on the Battle Pass timer in-game, Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 Season 3 is expected to begin on April 12, and it remains to be seen whether or not the new season can re-capture the interest of players who have since abandoned the latest CoD title.
