Eliminate Game Lag With WTFast!

Breaking News

My Quick Look At SMITE Open Beta

This last weekend, I started to play this new Free-To-Play Multiplayer Online Battle Arena or MOBA game called SMITE. I personally don't like MOBA games like DoTA (Defense of the Ancients) and League of Legends but I'm willing to try them.

Fortunately, I find SMITE different from most MOBA games because, unlike most MOBA games, the characters in SMITE are played in third-person-view. This kinda made me feel like I was playing an MMORPG instead of a MOBA game.

As a MOBA game, SMITE uses the Gods from various ancient mythologies as characters and my favorite Gods in the game are Zeus, Thor and Odin. Of course, I also play using the other Gods but these three are my favorites.

The Gods Of SMITE

The other Gods that are available in the game are:
  • Agni, God of Fire, Hindu
  • Anhur, Slayer of Enemies, Egyptian
  • Anubis, God of the Dead, Egyptian
  • Ao Kuang, Dragon King of the Eastern Seas, Chinese
  • Arachne, The Weaver, Greek
  • Ares, The God of War, Greek
  • Artemis, Goddess of the Hunt, Greek
  • Bacchus, The God of Wine, Roman
  • Bakasura, The Great Devourer, Hindu
  • Bastet, The Goddess of Cats, Egyptian
  • Cupid, The God of Love, Roman
  • Freya, The Queen of the Valkyries, Norse
  • Guan Yu, The Saint of War, Chinese
  • Hades, King of the Underworld, Greek
  • He Bo, The God of the Yellow River, Chinese
  • Hel, The Goddess of the Underworld, Norse
  • Hercules, The Champion of Rome, Roman
  • Kali, The Goddess of Destruction, Hindu
  • Loki, The Trickster God, Norse
  • Odin, The Allfather, Norse
  • Ra, The Sun God, Egyptian
  • Sobek, God of the Nile, Egyptian
  • Sun Wukong, The Monkey King, Chinese
  • Thor, God of Thunder, Norse
  • Vaman, Fifth Avatar of Visnu, Hindu
  • Vulcan, Smith of the Gods, Roman
  • Xbalanque, The Hidden Jaguar Sun, Mayan
  • Ymir, Father of the Frost Giants, Norse
  • Zeus, God of the Sky, Greek
As listed above, I can choose from any of the Gods from the list and I've tried some of them but I just didn't like playing them. It's either that I don't like their powers or I don't like how they look. Besides, playing with too many different Gods will just confuse me more.

Game Modes

SMITE has a few different game modes and these are:
  • Arena
  • Conquest
  • Domination
  • Joust
  • The Weakest Link
  • Master of the Hunt
  • Arachnophobia
All I can say about Conquest is that it plays very much like DoTA. The map has three lanes and each lane is protected by towers and phoenixes. The objective of the match is to destroy the Minotaur after destroying the towers and phoenixes that are protecting it. The first team that destroys the other team's Minotaur wins the match.

Arena and Domination is a little bit different because there are no Minotaurs to destroy or protect. The objective of these matches is to deplete the other team's tickets. Of course, there are some differences between the two. For example, in Domination the team that controls most of the Obelisks will deplete the other team's ticket quickly.

My favorite Game Mode is Arena and Domination because the spawns are faster. In Conquest, I'll have to wait longer because the spawn timer is based on character level. If my character level is high when I died then I'll have to wait a lot, lot longer.

Controlling My God In SMITE

Because SMITE is in third-person-view, controlling my God or character is done by pressing the ASWD keys. Shooting or attacking is done by pressing my left-mouse-button and selecting a Skill to use is done by pressing the number associated with it on my keyboard.

I don't like to play DoTA or MOBA games often because I'm not very good at point and click games but I'm really enjoying SMITE because I'm somewhat used to using the ASWD keys. Unfortunately, it doesn't help me one bit because I'm still very terrible at playing MOBA games.

In fact, my nickname when playing MOBA type games is "NOOB". LOL!

What About LAG?

SMITE has two server locations. North America and Europe. I play in the North America server and I haven't experienced any lag at all since I started playing a couple of days ago. By the way, I'm playing from the Philippines and that's a big thing to consider.

If I'm not lagging in SMITE then players who are closer to the server won't experience any lag as well. The only time I get some lag while playing SMITE is when someone starts watching YouTube videos through my WiFi connection.

As for my FPS or frames-per-second while playing SMITE, I only get around 30 FPS because I have V-Sync enabled to prevent those annoying screen tears or screen tearing. Besides, I don't really care much for extremely high FPS in games. For me, 30 FPS is good enough. Going beyond that is overkill.

Cost Of Playing SMITE

As far as I know, SMITE is Free-To-Play because if it wasn't then I don't think I'd even think of trying it. Don't get me wrong, SMITE is a very good game but, like most people, I'm very practical and I'll never spend money on any game unless, of course, it's really, really good.

For now, I feel that I can get anything I want from SMITE (like new Gods) by simply playing the game regularly. Most of the items sold in SMITE are also purchasable using Favors. I'll just have to save all the Favors I can get and use it to buy the items I want.

So, the cost of playing SMITE for me is absolutely nothing.

The Look And Feel Of SMITE

Unfortunately, I don't play games in High Graphics Settings because I kinda prefer performance over visual quality. In fact, the first thing that I do whenever I start playing a new game is to set the graphics setting to low. That's why I can't really judge the graphics quality of SMITE but, from what I've seen in screenshots and videos of SMITE, I can say that it's very good.

I like how SMITE translated the appearance of all the Gods in the game. Obviously, none of them look real. In fact, all of them look kinda cartoonish but, then again, I'm talking about a game and not real life. Besides, I don't think using real-life looking characters will translate well in a game like SMITE.

The maps are well designed too. The lanes or paths are wide enough to accomodate ten Gods battling each other at the same time. It will look kinda chaotic because of all various special effects from each God's powers but it won't feel crowded.

My favorite map is the jungle and it's the map used in Conquest. I like it because there's a lot of things going on around the map. There are towers, there are phoenixes, there are minotaurs and there are a lot of other creatures and monsters to slay in the forest itself.

Playing The Game

SMITE has different game modes but the basics are all the same. I need to level-up my God by either killing the other team's minions (they call minions in DoTA creeps) or by killing the other team's Gods. Of course, killing minions is much easier than killing a God controlled by another human player. LOL!

As my character levels up, I can upgrade its skills to make them more powerful and I can also buy items that will improve its stats better. This is where I fail most of the time because I'm too slow in leveling-up my character or God and, because of that, I usually end up getting killed by the other team's Gods who are more powerful than I am.

I've seen some players who are really good at playing the game. I don't know how they do it but they can quickly boost their characters or Gods to level 20 in just a few minutes. For example, I had a match were our Team's Loki was already level 20 while the rest of us were still at Level 12. He literally won the game by himself and I find that really amazing.

Unfortunately, even if I play SMITE everyday, I don't think I'll ever get that same kind of playing skill or playing ability. Some people are just gifted, I guess.

Play SMITE, It's Fun And It's FREE

Before I end this very long post about SMITE, I just want to tell everyone that this is not a paid post. No one paid me to play SMITE and, absolutely, no one paid me to write about it either. This post is 100% based on my experience playing the game.

Now that we have that cleared, I just want to say that I'm currently enjoying playing SMITE. I'm not good at it but I still play it because it's really fun to play. I'm not bullshitting anyone. In fact, I want you to play SMITE right now.

Stop procrastinating! Let's battle each other as our favorite Gods in SMITE.
